On May 9, 2023, WHHS President Shirley Pineo and Vice President Gary Nelson made the following presentation to our West Hants Regional Municipal Council. Shirley and Gary gave an excellent presentation to WHRM Council, on behalf of our community-led, multi-partner committee, proposing that a cultural heritage centre be built on the vacant public lands adjacent to Fort Edward National Historic Site.
Represented at the Council meeting on May 9 were several stakeholders, including but not limited to:
- The Mi’kmaq Warrior Society
- Glooscap First Nation
- Friends of Grand Pre
- The Black Community of West Hants
- The West Hants Historical Society
- The East Hants Historical Society
- Royal Canadian Legion Br. 009
- The 84th Regiment of Foot living history re-enactors
- Parks Canada
- Archaeology in Acadie
- Boreas Heritage Consulting
- Community Members
Unfortunately the conceptual drawings prepared by the talented Mi’kmaq designer/engineer Gabe Gehue were not viewable to remote viewers due to some tech issues. Thank you to council for acknowledging our 50th Anniversary and for allowing us time to present our ideas. We are grateful to all of our community partners and stakeholders.
