I would like to dedicate this book to all the people who have helped me while I was writing and trying to find information on the old days.
First 0f all my family who have always encouraged me in everything that I try to do. Now to my grandson Paul, who has done all the typing and put up with the many changes I have made from time to time. It seems I am always picking up more information from people and trying to fit it in somewhere or another.
Many thanks to Mrs. Helen Palmer (the former Helen McNeil) who was my Sunday School teacher in my younger days. I really enjoyed visiting with her and listening to her stories 0£ the older days. I had hoped to finish this book in time for her to read, but Helen passed away before I finished. She told me many stories and save me many pictures that I have used in this book. She was the bookkeeper of her father’s lumbering operation for many years. She said that when unemployment insurance, paid holidays and higher income taxes came along, her father Will decided that it was time to get out of the business. He said he was too old to get involved with all that book work.
Thanks also foes to Russell Smith, John Smith, Vernon Hebb, Ivan Hebb, Jim Eldridee, Ernest Sweet and many others from whom I have picked up a 5ood many stories.
Also stories my father told me about his work in the woods. I have always enjoyed listening to people talking about the good old days and the many things they have seen.
