Pearl Cochran Brown was a schoolteacher for 20 years and three of those years were at the Newport Corner School where she met and married her husband, Walter Brown, who was the father of one of her students. She became the mother to his 7 daughters and 2 sons.
Pearl and Walter lived on the old Newport homestead but in 1942 this land was expropriated by the Federal Government. The old Brown home was demolished to make way for the Newport Naval Station build by the Dept of National Defense.
Pearl was an avid history enthusiast spending many hours researching and discussing local history.
