Maribelle Smiley
Prolific amateur historian and recorder of family histories, Maribelle Smith “Belle” Smiley was a founding member and contributor to the West Hants Historical Society. Born in 1901 in St. Croix, NS, she passed away in May of 2001 at 99 years of age. About seven years ago she gave permission to the WHHS to copy and sell her many works including genealogies of the Cochran, Dill, Haley, Hunter, Redden, Smiley, Spence and Sweet families of Hants County.
Those who knew Belle will appreciate our loss and future researchers will be thankful for the tremendous contribution she made to the family and community history of this area.
