West Hants Historical Society

Explore the rich history of West Hants, Nova Scotia and the surrounding areas in one of the Town of Windsor's fascinating gems.

What we do

We offer a top-notch genealogy research library, a seasonal museum full of local interest, and the oldest blockhouse in Canada at Fort Edward.

Large library of resources. Family and community histories, photos, maps, and so much more.

Cultural history of Hants County. Household, industrial & shipping technologies of a bygone era.

Fort Edward

At the National Historic Site of Fort Edward, the blockhouse is the oldest surviving structure of its kind in Canada.

Gift Shop

We offer a small gift shop in our Museum that includes many local historic publications.

We are a small but mighty group of volunteers.

The West Hants Historical Society is based in Windsor, Nova Scotia, at 281 King Street. Our very first meeting was held in 1973, and we continue to collect, record and preserve the history of Hants County and adjacent areas, and to promote the restoration and preservation of Fort Edward.
