Haig Cadet Bugle Band

Haig Cadet Bugle Band

The Windsor Academy Haig Cadet Corps was formed following the Boer War and honoured General Douglas Haig, who in World War One led Canadian troops in Europe, including Windsor’s soldiers in battles in France.

The Bugle Band of the cadet corps was popular with students and town citizens alike. In fact, during World War One the band was in demand for parades for several battalions billeted at Fort Edward, for some such battalions did not have their own military band.

The Bugle Band was the beginning of a career in music for some. H. Carleton Smith and his brother Sid, shown in this photo above, got their start there and played in the Windsor Citizens’ Band into their senior years.
