New Connections in an Old Location

Going into this job, I definitely expected to learn new things. After all, that’s what a museum is for; learning. And I definitely have learned new things, and have been given context to things I already knew. Stories I’ve read or names I’ve heard throughout my life make more sense to me now. My understanding of the West Hants area has expanded greatly. More than that, though, I’ve learned many things about different areas, because I’ve been able to meet so many new people.

In retrospect, of course I would. Museums attract all kinds from all over. People passing through town, researching family history, folks on vacation or those who wish to learn. It is so exciting to meet all of you. It’s wonderful to be able to share my knowledge with you, and to learn something new in return. You never know what you have in common with someone on the other side of the ocean, or the stories you may share. Laughter is just as common as learning here!

I think that’s my favourite part of the job. As much as I love history, meeting new people, even if I only ever see you the one time, is by far the most rewarding. That goes for everyone I work with, too – it’s been wonderful to get to know you and spend my time with you. In a place as old as this, new friendships, connections and knowledge are constantly appearing, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I hope you’ll come visit and make a new connection sometime, too. 😊
