New volunteer curator appointed, progress made toward becoming an accredited archives

The board of directors of the West Hants Historical Society is pleased to welcome Denise Parrott to our team as our Archivist and Curator.

Denise has been a librarian for over 30 years. As Archivist/Curator for the West Hants Historical Society, Denise brings years of planning and love of story to a shore that captured her heart. Originally from Newfoundland, in 2016 Denise and her husband purchased one of the oldest houses in Cheverie. The house was waiting to tell its story, and through the WHHS research library this has been possible.

“My goal has always been to empower people through information.” -Denise Parrott

Denise completed an archives course and joined the WHHS Board in 2019. Her goal is an accessible museum and archives collection in which stories of surrounding communities are preserved, discoverable and able to inform our present. Denise has taken training through the provincial museum and archives associations. She has developed archives procedures for the Board and obtained a grant for resources evaluation, a process which will help the Board develop a viable archives to complement its museum and research library.

The WHHS is very happy to have Denise onboard and we look forward to working with her on great things here at the museum.
